As the holiday season approaches and another year comes to a close, we want to begin with one thing above all else: thank you.

To everyone who has donated, shared our work, fostered, volunteered or stood beside us in 2025 — your generosity has changed hundreds of lives. Animals who were abused, forgotten or with nowhere to turn are alive today because you cared.

But the need has not slowed. And in 2026, our work can only continue with your generosity.

Forever Friends Animal Rescue exists for homeless animals who don’t fit neatly anywhere else — the elderly, the traumatised, the mistreated. Every rescue comes with very real costs: urgent veterinary care, long-term treatment, foster support and often time at our Sanctuary. Those costs continue to rise, while the calls for help keep coming.

This time of giving, we are asking you to help ensure we can keep showing up in 2026 — because the animals who need us most cannot wait.

Happy – Forgotten, Then Found

Happy was left alone in a unit for several months after his elderly mum was taken into aged care and unable to return home. Social workers visited briefly once a day to feed him — but otherwise, Happy lived alone, frightened and confused.

When Happy arrived in the care of Forever Friends Animal Rescue, he was in poor condition.

He was undesexed was suffering severe dental disease requiring 21 tooth extractions, had a large ulcerated tumour on his tail and another near his anus that both required surgical removal, was undesexed and had a low-grade heart murmur.

Emotionally, Happy was terrified. He was fearful of touch and handling — deeply affected by prolonged isolation.

With time, love and the unwavering kindness of foster carers, Happy slowly began to feel safe again. His fear softened, his confidence grew, and his gentle personality emerged.

And Happy’s story most certainly has a happy ending! He was recently adopted by a woman in her early 80s living alone in Rosebud, who had lost her beloved companion dog of 17 years just months earlier.

Two older souls who desperately needed each other — and found exactly that!

JERSEY GIRL – A LIFE THAT ALMOST WASN’T

A small group of Boer goats arrived in our care after escaping a horrific situation — an abattoir. They were exhausted, shaken, but alive.

What we didn’t know was that one of them, Gloria, was pregnant.

Shortly after arriving at the Sanctuary, we discovered a tiny brown baby girl curled up beside her in the stable. Gloria had given birth to Jersey Girl — a life that came heartbreakingly close to never existing at all.

Both mother and baby were given safety, care and time to recover. Today, little Jersey is one of the shining lights of the Sanctuary — a living reminder of how close some lives come to being lost forever.

Because of donor support, this mother and her baby have a future.
